New replacement battery holder for Metz 45: Finally the perfect solution for your flash unit!
Share
The Metz 45 stick flashes are powerful, sturdy, and widely used. But all owners know one problem: the original battery holders are brittle and often break after years of use. To solve this problem, we offer high-quality replacement battery holders!
Two versions for optimal performance
Our new battery holders come in two variants:
- Variant 1: For 6x 1.5V alkaline batteries (9V operating voltage)
- Variant 2: For 6x 1.2V Ni-Mh or Ni-Cd rechargeable cells (7.2V operating voltage)
Why are there two versions?
The Metz 45 flash has two different pairs of contacts with separate circuits for charging the capacitor:

- The 9V circuit is designed for alkaline batteries and switches off when the voltage drops to 7V. If you use Ni-Mh rechargeable cells here, they have a significantly shorter service life because they start at only 7.2V and are recognized as "empty" early on.
- The 7.2V circuit is specially designed for Ni-Mh or Ni-Cd rechargeable cells. Here the cells are used optimally and the flash works efficiently.
Choosing the right version is therefore crucial to optimize the flash power & lifespan of your flash unit!
Product advantages
- Easy handling: The lower part of the holder can be unscrewed, so the batteries or rechargeable cells can be changed quickly.
- Longer flash duration: High-quality Ni-Mh rechargeable cells (e.g. EBL 2800 mAh) allow 350+ flashes at medium power.
- Perfect fit: The holder sits stable and secure in the battery compartment without wobbling.
-
Reliable compatibility: Fits all Metz 45 models:
- Mecablitz 45 CT-1, CT-3, CT-4, CT-5
- Mecablitz 45 CL-1, CL-3, CL-4, CL-4 Digital, CL-5
Important: Compatibility with earlier versions
All battery holders sold before February 2025 correspond to the "alkaline" variant. If you want longer use with Ni-Mh rechargeable cells, we recommend the new "Ni-Mh" battery holder to achieve optimal performance.
With our new battery holder, brittle mounts are a thing of the past – secure the perfect power supply for your Metz 45 flash now!
